On August 2, the opening ceremony of the Public Open Day for the "Jia Geng" Research Vessel, organized by Xiamen University Malaysia and the China-ASEAN Ocean College, was held at Port Klang. Ambassador Ouyang Yujing, Malaysia’s Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Zheng Lihang, TusStar Malaysia CEO Chen Yaohui, and representatives from Xiamen University’s main campus and its Malaysian branch, totaling over one hundred participants, attended the opening ceremony.
Ambassador Ouyang Yujing emphasized in his speech that over the past fifty years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China, cooperation between the two countries has deepened across various fields. The "Jia Geng" research vessel has become an important bridge for enhancing educational, scientific, and cultural exchanges between Malaysia and China. He specifically highlighted the crucial role of Qidi Company in advancing these collaborations. Minister Zeng Likang also noted that the "Jia Geng" vessel serves as a link connecting researchers from both nations, and that Qidi Company has made significant contributions to promoting technological innovation and blue economy cooperation.
Malaysian Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Dr. Zeng Likang stated that the collaboration and exchanges in science and technology between Malaysia and China have yielded fruitful results. The "Jia Geng" research vessel serves as a vital link connecting researchers from both countries, effectively promoting collaborative efforts and facilitating innovations in science and technology as well as blue economy partnerships.
Former President of Xiamen University Zhu Chongshi stated that the opening of the "Jia Geng" vessel to the Malaysian public is not only a way for Xiamen University to express its gratitude to Mr. Tan Kah Kee but also a vibrant practice of inheriting and promoting the "Jia Geng Spirit" in the new era.
After the event, the guests boarded the "Jia Geng" vessel for a tour and warmly interacted with the faculty and students from both Xiamen University and its Malaysia campus who were participating in the research expedition.
The "Jia Geng" vessel will host free public open days for Malaysia on August 3rd and 4th, offering visitors access to open laboratories, various exhibitions, educational videos, and engaging interactive activities.
